Computers, electrical systems and sensors are a key component of today’s aerospace and automobile industries providing control, redundancy, safety, navigational enhancements and the ability for remote operations. As hardware and software is increasingly incorporated into vehicles they are becoming more complex, composed of system of systems and real-time systems that are integral to their design and operation.

Significant advancements are being made in the development of unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs) that can travel over land, through the air and under the oceans. Robotics plays a significant role in the development of UAVs and the use of these vehicles within military and civilian applications; from nanotechnology that is used to create hummingbird-sized surveillance robots to autonomous vehicles that can go over ground, underwater and through the air.
